Miracle Contact
Considering this was a project based around museums, in order to create an authetic experience in the prototype it was necessary to reach out to some of museums (at least in this case in London) which would be willing to allow their information to be used.
This is where this project could get into some dangerous territory mainly for copyright issues as if I was to take something from a museum of my own personal choice obviously without permission, it can lead to rabbit hole of consequences if it emerged that I used their interlectual property, or at least in this case it would be out there because obviously I’m will be presenting this to the University, but also on this site.
Regardless of that, even if that were somehow allowed the idea would be to also consider ethical considerations as if the topic that I would select would have to be something that can avoid very touchy subjects which could involve creating an uproar with any community. A good example of what not do in this case would be to select the topic which involved any War related stories, or least the classic dark stories that are part of WW2.
So with that knowledge, I understood that certain museums can fit into a good category which then can incorporate good use of game mechanics, at least to my initial vision. So below is a list of museums I decided to contact:
From here I took the liberty to contact all of the these museums explaining my situation either through email or through the phoneline along the lines of this:
“My Name is Richard and I'm a Masters student currently studying Game Development Design at Kingston University. For my final year project, the aim is the create a museum within a virtual space, focusing on the interactivity as part of the museum experience and transform it into a gaming experience all whilst using a VR headset to deliver this project. Considering the idea of the project is to allow users to interact with artefacts within the virtual space, but many choices in the design of the gamified elements relates to the type of artefacts available and for this project to work, I'm asking if the museum would be open to providing any resources or information on artefact in current or future exhibits that could be used for this project.”
So now we just have to play a waiting game of who will actually decide to respond, again I’m feeling positive, but for the sake of being realistic, if none of them respond it could be a problem later on in development
