Time to Brainstorm (Team-Talk Game Design Final Project)

After a long talk with myself and understanding my own capabilities, I took it upon myself to stay as part of the team, so Team Endgame is still alive and well, only difference being one of the members has chosen to go it alone and it solo, which is totally fine, I don’t feel betrayed or anything like that at all (In all honesty, I understand where he was coming from)

Which means the Team has now been reduced to 3 people, which is still substantial enough and we are just that good. Teamwork makes the dream work.

We decide to conduct our meeting tonight giving ideas and brainstorming and possible concept for the game.

The theme is Impulse, so what did we come up with.

First the discussion arose, what is Impulse? It has many definitions

  • Physics - it mean a change of momentum

  • Psychology- it means an unexplainable urge to do something.

  • Another definition is a pulse of electrical energy

I did think of the couple ideas initially, but was very contempt in creating a puzzle game experience using a “pulse”. It was Sonar from the beginning maybe mapping that out after soon realising that sonar uses sound waves, but the principle was there.

I gave these ideas to the team and they too were also happy with the idea of designing a puzzle based game. We mentioned topics like rage impulses and “shopping impulse” but because I wanted to be a little different I want to take a different route. From here we took separate ideas and looked at Darq as an inspiration, but still unsure about it, this will be later discussed on Wednesday when we will see Jarek and have a discussion. This particular meeting took place on Saturday 3rd December.

To help use Brainstorm concepts so far, we’ve created a Miro Board and then hopefully we will move onto using Arcweave to really pinpoint our idea because at the moment it’s still very vague

Again, I’m just bouncing ideas around but these are a couple of concepts as mechanics that could work

  • Puzzle Game - That is similar to an Amazon shopping page, relating to Shopping Impulse

  • Shooting Game unsure if I want to use First or Third Person Perspective, where there are pop-up adds for shopping products and you have to stop buying things

  • Puzzle Game with an EMP where they have to destroy certain equipment or scan with the pulse to find potential risk in the mainframe, you could even a be a chip in the system

  • Rage as a meter where its either something that is activated or is a meter where the player has to stop from reaching zero otherwise Game Over
