Technical Design

After looking back at how the game would play and making an error, I started to see that the Tag System might not work after all and now will be cut from the final product. Genuinely, it could’ve made for an interesting dynamic for a solely single-player experience, however, this is a multiplayer one so if this was to be implemented it may cause more frustration with the other player that you are with rather than be a restriction to help the other player.

Having the other player dictate your movements would seem incredibly annoying especially when doing puzzles because then ‘you’ wouldn’t be the route cause of the issue it would somebody else leading to frustration.

The Tables

In order to develop a coherant understanding of these mechanics which I made, I realise I needed to be more direct with the concept, so I decided it was best to create tables detailing each action that is done by the player and being more specific with what this action does. Creating these tables allows for a defined approached to displaying all the information necessary, again going into the specifics and presenting the technicalities of each of the players in the game world.

These tables should clearly explain the differences in the Rangers and the Aliens, describing what each method of play is. I developed the table under these sections which allowed me to be more descriptive by picking about all of the aspects regarding that one action in the game. They were split into:

  • Action - What they do

  • Action Described - How will they do it

  • Time - How long does said action take

  • Description of Speed - How would I describe the action to someone normal

  • Description of Animation - Howe is it supposed to look as a representation that this action is happening

Below will be a bunch of tables that have countless information going over these ideas, but it should all be pretty self explanatory from here:

In terms of this one, particularly, one row is highlighted in Yellow, for the pure reason that I’m unsure if it’s still going to be there and is something we are looking forward to implementing the final game. So it might be cut in the future, we will see.

Resource List

Finally, a resource list, considering that each of the player will be on 2 very different teams, it important that we understand the costs of how the Aliens will distract the Ranger Players, and also how the Ranger players can survive, this has probably been finalised now, it’s just when it comes to testing this will probably change also, at least the number specifics anyways. But it does explain and add a lot of already sprouting context of how the game will work here. So you can also have a look at it down below:
